Pure Ithmid Kohl – Fine Ithmid Sourced from either Hejaz or Maghreb

Description

Pure Ithmid kohl, also known as antimony kohl, is a traditional eye cosmetic that has been used for centuries in various cultures for its cosmetic and sometimes therapeutic properties. The Prophet ﷺ said “The best of your kohl is ithmid, for it makes the vision clear and makes the hair grow.” (al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 633)
Pure Ithmid kohl refers to a high-quality and unadulterated form of kohl, which is derived from finely ground antimony or stibnite mineral.

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Kohl protects the health of the eyes and gives strength and clarity of vision, and cleanses the eye of bad substances. In addition to that some types of kohl also serve as an adornment and if it is applied before going to bed this is even better. And ithmid is more efficacious than other types of kohl. There is some debate about whether galena or antimony is the ithmid mentioned in the hadith.  Our ithmid kohl is the ithmid which is traditionally referred to in Meccan and Madina as ithmid.

The reflectivity of powdered ithmid kohl provides protection from the sun’s UV rays, and some research indicates that lead ions stimulate the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is an immune stimulant with antibacterial action and has been found to lower intraocular pressure and act as a vasodilator. Lower intraocular pressure and increased blood flow to the eyes are associated with lower risk of ocular diseases and improved vision.

This kohl is antimony-based, but both antimony and galena-based kohl are safe to use. Galena ore is insoluble and is not absorbed by the human body, unlike the metal lead. Deriving toxic lead from galena ore requires smelting the galena at temperatures of over 2500 C. Read more here.
