Frankincense (known in Arabic as Luban) is a resin secreted by the trunk of Boswellia Sacra tree. The Dhofar region in Oman, in southern Arabia, has been known for millennia as the source of the world’s best frankincense, prized by royalty around the world for its health giving properties. Our luban comes from Samhan mountain, which is well known for outstanding quality luban. Trees growing on rocky, mountainous slopes usually produce higher quality bakhoor because of calcareous soil conditions. Samhan mountain is located in the Easter part of Dhofar. Luban from his region is called “”Hojary”” and is considered to be the highest grade of luban. Green male (dhakr) hojary frankincense is the highest grade and is generally used for internal consumption, but it can also be burned as an incense.
