Description
Arabian Siwak, also known as Miswak or Siwak, is a teeth-cleaning twig or stick that is sourced from the Salvadora persica tree and is popular for oral hygiene and dental care in many cultures, particularly in the Arabian Peninsula. When the Siwak is sourced from Al Madina Al Munawara, it may be considered especially special and valuable, as Al Madina Al Munawara is a significant city in Saudi Arabia, known for its historical and religious significance. Aisha, radhi Allahu anha, reported that the Prophet ๏ทบ said, โTheย siwak is cleansing for the mouth and pleasing to the Lord.โ [Sunan al-Nasaฬโiฬ 5]
Ali, radhi Allahu anhu,ย reported that the Prophetย ๏ทบ said,ย โVerily, when the servant uses theย siwak and then stands to pray, an angel stands behind him and listens to his recitation. The angel draws near until his mouth coincides with his and nothing of the Quran comes out of it but that it enters the heart of the angel. Thus, purify your mouths for the Quran.โ [Musnad al-Bazzaฬr 568]
Anas, radhi Allahu anhu, reported that the Prophet ๏ทบ said, โI was ordered to use theย siwak so often that I was afraid my teeth might fall out.โ [Musnad al-Bazzaฬr 2455]
Umm Habiba, radhi Allahu anha, reported that the Prophetย ๏ทบ said,ย โWere it not hardship for my nation, I would have commanded them to use theย siwak with every prayer as they perform ablution.โ
The Prophet ๏ทบ used to clean his teeth with siwak upon waking up for the night prayer (qiyam al layl), before making wudhu, and upon returning to the home after being out. He ๏ทบ would also clean his tongue until he would make a retching sound “”Ah, ah.”” [Sahih Bukhari 244]. He ๏ทบ used the siwak while fasting. Ibn al Qayyim, rahimullah, said that the preferred type ofย siwak is from the Aloeswood tree because it tastes better and is more fragrant, and itโs better to let it soak a while in rose water before brushing.
